What Can You Expect Right Before And After Liposuction
While the liposuction surgery is going on, the patient will be closely monitored for fluid loss. The process of liposuction involves the breaking up and suctioning out of body fat. While the fat is being vacuumed out of the area to be reshaped, body fluid can also be removed. To avoid shock to the system, the fluid that is removed may have to be replaced during and after the lipo. After the operation, the patient is asked to walk to decrease the risk of blod clots and to improve healing.
Following the liposuction, the area treated may leak while you are at home. You should let your plastic surgeon know that it is leaking. A tiny tube may be put into the leaking area to drain the fluid. Although not recommended by all cosmetic surgeons, a tight dressing may have to be worn for a few weeks surrounding the area treated to control swelling and to help the body to shape itself.
To avoid risks of infections, the surgeon might prescribe antibiotics. Typical side effects that last for several days after liposuction are numbness, swelling, and tingling. The liposuction treated area needs several weeks and sometimes longer to re shape itself where the fat deposits were taken out.
Liposuction care prior to surgery is to stay off of aspirin and other medications that might cause an increase in bleeding. The patient should be prepared by his surgeon on what he should rid his body off a few weeks before liposuction which might include smoking. A successful liposuction depends on the quality of general health the patient has going into the operation and how well he maintains his health following the operation by doing everything that his surgeon recommends.
